Pre-Associate's Certificate--include only those programs that are credit-bearing and culminate in the awarding of a certificate or diploma but not a degree. Such programs primarily prepare students for a specific vocational career and typically require no previous college credit for admission.

Other Undergraduate Certificates/Diplomas--include both credit and non-credit-bearing programs that offer instruction at the undergraduate level but are not intended to culminate in a degree. Such programs typically offer 200-400 level instruction and may also anticipate previous college experience or a previous college degree.

All degree programs--institutions may consult IPEDS Fall Enrollment Summary for definitions of degrees. Note that IPEDS groups all graduate degrees into a single category; our categories are by graduate level.

Specialist's degree--an award that normally requires the completion of a program of study beyond the Bachelor's degree. Most Specialist's programs are in Education or other related disciplines.

Post-Baccalaureate First Professional--include the M.D., M.Div., J.D., Pharm.D., etc. Do not include the Bachelor's of Architecture or similar degrees. For a complete list of First Professional degrees, consult the instructions for the IPEDS Fall Enrollment Summary.

Post-Baccalaureate Certificates--include both credit and non-credit-bearing programs that offer instruction to students who must already have a Bachelor's degree. Such programs typically offer instruction at the 300 level and above although such instruction may not be at the graduate level. Also include graduate certificates that carry graduate credit.
